You will find links to Amazon.com for recommended reading on this page.  Please note that most of these books are not “how to” books.  Books by Penelope Leach and William and Martha Sears, for example, are helpful “how to” books that offer meaningful child-rearing guidance.

I neither profess to be a child-rearing expert nor do I offer specific advice on parenting issues.  Instead, I offer opinions about parenting while upholding consistent standards, such as supporting breastfeeding and stay-at-home mothering, as well as vehemently opposing corporal punishment.

The books that I recommend will give readers a profound understanding of human development.   They also offer interesting perspectives on children, women, and family life.

As a woman, I am keenly interested in books that address women’s roles in society.  The role of the nurturing mother is one that is, in my opinion, sorely misunderstood.  This is an issue that I broach in my book Mothering with Breastfeeding and Maternal Care.

Moreover, I am always intrigued by what women can do to help young children fulfill their potential as healthy and happy human beings.  It is my unequivocal stance that mothers can do a great deal to direct their children toward healthy human development.

I have used the following books to support the arguments that I present in my book and on my Web site.  Happy reading!
